I wasn’t sure what to expect going into this one. I know Autumn Jones Lake’s writing as I’m a huge fan of her Lost Kings MC series, but while this is set in the same world, and we do get a peek at some of our beloved bikers, this is not about them.

Bree returns home after a violent split from her boyfriend. Liam, her brother’s bestie and the object of her teenage desires, is the one to meet her on her return after promising her brother, Vince, that he would look out for her. Vince didn’t however tell Liam just why Bree is finally coming home after a long time away, and seeing the shape she’s in brings out not only his protective urges, but also reminds him of a night long ago, when things took a frustrating change of direction.

This is well and truly a second chance for the pair, and I loved how this story developed.  I think Liam being a sheriff helped him take a more softly, softly approach to Bree after what happened to her, but I could feel Bree’s frustration with just how much he was treating her a little TOO softly sometimes. I really enjoyed Bullets and Bonfires and I’m looking forward to seeing how this world expands, hopefully continuing to include glimpses of the LOKI men. 5 stars all the way.
