-As voices fill the bar, desolation threatens to choke me. This Club has been my life since I was old enough to prospect. I respect my patch, honour our traditions and processes, and couldn’t love my brothers more if they’d been brothers by blood. In my mind, and I’d always assumed my brother’s minds, we are blood brothers.
Watching the men who I’d throw my life on the line for fight amongst themselves, I’m left wondering if this is the beginning of the end. Will this treachery succeed in taking us down, or will we rise and face the challenge as the brotherhood we thought we were?
What a fucking night.
And it’s only just beginning.

In book one we saw what happened during Maddi/Lainey’s relationship with Brendan, and then the present day. It is commented on that Mik helped her get over what happened; it was a tough time for all but eventually they got through it… that’s about it though.
Well Soothing Suffering fills in some of the blanks. It is the story of how Mik and Lainey got through it. Touching on some dark subjects, I think Kylie Hillman handled the subject very well and it was good to see this part of Lainey’s recovery.
It does say that it can be read before or after book one, but IMO you should read it afterwards, mainly because although you know something bad happened to Lainey, and you have a very good idea what it was, you don’t get the full impact of just what it is she’s getting over. To get the full impact of the story, I strongly suggest reading Seizing Control first.
This is a very short read; the story itself actually ended at 64%, but it is a very good read and I give Soothing Suffering 4 stars.

Straight away we are thrown into some action. Maddi/Lainey (everyone calls her Maddi except Mik who calls her Lainey) gets home from work and is promptly kidnapped from her driveway and taken to someone who hurt her 4 years earlier. Once she realises what’s happened, the story flips back and forth between what happened 4 years ago, to the present, and not just from Lainey’s perspective, but also from Mik; her fiancé’s.
The first half of this book was what I would call uncomfortable. Not because of the writing, no that was really good, but because of what happened to Lainey. The way the author wrote it made it seem more real in a way. That is a GOOD thing though. I love dark books and this was definitely that.
When the story moved to completely in the present, and people were starting to think things were looking up… nope, sorry, there’s more, um, let’s just call it drama shall we, lol, to come. Not just from the threat to Lainey, but the MC comes under threat too. I so want to say what happened but nope, read it and find out yourself.
This is my first read by Kylie Hillman and wow, what took me so long. I really enjoyed book one and can’t wait to dive into the next one. Seizing Control gets 5 stars from me.

Making Choices is book two in the Black Shamrocks MC series and picks up right where book one; Seizing Control, left off. This time we get the story of SAA Timber and JJ, the surgeon he met in book one. Although each book is about a different couple, you really need to read these in order as there is a continuing story running in the background.
JJ has been brought up to fear and obey her father, who happens to be one of the chief surgeons at the hospital. He would not approve of her relationship with a biker, and after 6 months of her refusing to stop keeping him a secret, Timber gives her an ultimatum.
While flitting back and forth over the last 6 months, showing us how their relationship progressed, we see JJ and Timber deal with club issues, her jealousy of Maddi, her awful parents and a douche of a doctor at work who could potentially end JJ’s career. Throw in some traitorous activities and a brewing war and it’s like reading an episode of SOA.
I really enjoyed book two and can’t wait to dive into book three. I give Making Choices 5 stars.

Seeking Redemption sees Lacey and Benji trying to break the hold that the meth has on them, all while the club is trying to get Mik/Mad Dog out of jail and their traitor’s taken care of. It takes one bad hit to make them both realise just how bad things have gotten, and in Benji’s case, just how much he cares for Lacey.
Benji is struggling from all angles. The drugs, his traitorous dad trying to get him to help with his plot, prospecting for the Shamrocks, the guilt over the years of torture aimed at his twin sister Maddi, and the horrific attack on his brother Joel. The only bright spark in his life was Lacey, the woman he claimed to only be “friends with benefits” with but after “that night” he realised how much his drug taking had distorted not only his view of what was going on around him, but how he truly felt for the woman he knew was falling for him.
Lacey is an Ol’ Lady of sorts. Her Ol’ Man, Connor, was one of the main traitors in the club, and he had been abusing Lacey for a while. We are shown through memories, just how bad Connor had been with her, and how she’d found herself becoming dependent on meth, and eventually Benji, when the truth about Connor came out.
The whole druggie storyline, I felt, was written really well. Kylie Hillman managed to show the full picture so to speak about how things had come about, and how the pair dealt with it. Of course it wasn’t just the story about Benji and Lacey. The club was in quite a bit of trouble, not only with Mad Dog awaiting trial for murder, but they had traitors still out in the wind, an ex-president up to no good, and a police commissioner hell bent on taking them all down.
A very good read. I’m enjoying this series, and will be starting the next book once I’m done with this review. Seeking Redemption was a 5 star read for me.

Originally written as part of a cancer charity anthology, Conquering Circumstances is a short little novella about Wendy and Beast’s battle with a life changing diagnosis, and with each other after the stunts Beast pulled over the previous books. He’s really trying for a reconciliation with both his woman and his kids, but maybe it’s too little too late. I guess we will find out in the next book.
An emotional ride that you must read after book 3 for the time line to flow correctly. A nice little filler story for a good cause. I give it 4 stars.

Book four in the Black Shamrocks series steps the drama up a level. No, make that two if not more levels. Things are definitely set up for what I’m sure will be an explosive finale.
Mik is out of jail with vengeance on his mind. He will kill Beast if it’s the last thing he does. But he wants Maddi’s blessing, and so far she isn’t giving it.
He’s also miffed that his brother and best friend is in love with Maddi. Even though Timber is moving on and has his own woman and baby now, as Mik was apparently the last to know, he feels betrayed by his friend, and humiliated that the rest of their brothers must have been laughing behind his back the whole time. The tension between Mik and Timber now is palpable.
Maddi sees Mik has changed. He’s moody. His temper is short. And he won’t for some reason let her see his body. He does seem to want to just get back to how things were though, but she refuses until he deals with his demons.
Lots of things happening in this book; certain things come to light, war being declared, in house fighting, and when they finally try to bring some happiness into the mix, the enemy strikes in the most brutal and heart stopping way.
This book was for me was a case of... wow… OMG… when is the next one out because I NEED it right NOW! Safe to say Tempting Fate gets 5 stars from me.

Finding Nirvana starts exactly where book 4 finished, with the club being attacked in a bloody, brutal, catastrophic way. I swear, I must have cried maybe six times just reading the first half dozen chapters. Heartbreaking. Nothing else to describe it really. Once the wounded are ready to leave hospital, the Shamrocks put together a plan of action to take down the Mavericks of Mayhem, their traitorous ex-president, and the man who has caused them nothing but grief for years, Thomas Taylor.
Along the way, we get Joel’s story of rehabilitation from his injuries the Mavericks caused him, and his falling in love with the beautiful physio; Sascha, who unbeknown to her is actually a huge part of their plan to take the Shamrocks’ enemies down.
I really liked this book. We’d known in previous books, just how bitter, and understandably so, Joel was about the club and everything that had happened to him because if it, so to see someone finally get through his walls like Sascha did was really good. The pair had great chemistry, and I think Kylie wrote them very well.
I think everything got wrapped up nicely and it was a fitting end to the series. I’ve really enjoyed the whole thing. Finding Nirvana gets 5 stars.
