I'd never read
any of Kate Benson's books before Beyond the Pine. The blurb didn't sound
like anything I'd normally read. But there was something about this book that
made me think.. why not? Let's give it a go.
I am really happy I
did, as I couldn't put it down.
The characters and
story drew me in from the start, and I could just feel it in the writing
that something was going to happen. And not all of it was going to be good, for
the characters at least, lol. That's what kept me reading, the
thought of what's going to happen? How will ... be resolved? Will Riley and
Asher find a way to get through it all in one piece? I have to admit, I had my
doubts at one point but of course that's a mark of a good story teller, to keep
you guessing until the very end. I won't say which way it went of course,
because you need to read it yourself to find that out.
I don't know if Kate
Benson will take this world she created any further, but if she does I
will be reading to find out what happens next. I thoroughly enjoyed Beyond the
Pine and give it 4.5 stars.
