I’m done being stupid

“It was
never that, was it? Never real. Never going to be forever, was it?”
In her head, Bethany heard her trembling question on a
repeated loop, remembered how it had echoed down the phone line connecting them
through the glass. Saw again the expression he wore, cold eyes she didn’t
recognize staring at her over the mouth she knew so intimately. Dark stubble on
his head, strange to see him look like this, his scalp had always been so
smooth under her hands.
“Don’t.
Please. Don’t lie to me. Give me that, at least.”
Heard his response.
“No,
honey. It couldn’t be.”
Twenty-year-old Bethany Taylor rested the heels of her hands
against her forehead and pressed hard. Over the sounds of water splashing
around her, she remembered the hollow clunk of the phone hitting the hook, the
fluid movement of his muscles as he rose from the chair positioned across from
her, and how he never broke stride as he walked away. Hollow inside, as she’d
been since she left the prison after visiting the man she loved.
She’d left the prison and gone straight to the bank, shifting
money and borrowing under her own name, not the business, funneling in every
cent she’d lost. Only once that was done, did she pull in a breath that wasn’t
weighted with fear. All through the legal proceedings she’d expected her
brother to show, expected him to swoop in like an avenging angel. Had woken
with that fear choking her every day, slept but fitfully, plagued with the
nightmare of having to explain to him how she’d messed up.
Now that everything was settled with the money back in the
business accounts where it should have stayed all along, there’d be nothing to
explain. Better if Davy never knows.
Tipping her head back, she used her palms to wipe the water
from her face, turning to let the shower stream through her dark hair. If there
was salt mixed in, no one would ever know. Never again, she vowed. I’m done being stupid.

We have seen in previous books that Fury and
Mason’s little sister, Bethy, had quite the chemistry going on. What we didn’t
know though was just how far back that chemistry went. Well now we get to find
out just how deep and long their relationship goes.
Lots of secrets are revealed, lots of things happening in the MC, plus of course Mason and the club’s reaction to his baby sister being with one of his men. I can’t even touch anything else plot wise because I know I’ll just start rambling about it all and totally spoiler it.
All I’m going to say, even if it does make me seem like a stuck record, is that I enjoyed this book so much I kept taking little breaks just to make it last. Yes, I know there is another book to come, and maybe there will be more shorts like MariaLisa likes to do, but I have just binge read this series from Mica to Fury and I was not ready for it to end. Each story drags you in and immerses you into this world MariaLisa deMora has created, making you as the reader feel connected to the characters in a way that you feel their emotions right along with them. Cry, laugh, gasp at the OMG moments…. You get the idea. Another page turning read, Fury gets a well deserved 5 stars from me.

Author Bio
Raised in the south, MariaLisa learned about the magic of books at an
early age. Every summer, she would spend hours in the local library,
devouring books of every genre. Self-described as a book-a-holic, she
says “I’ve always loved to read, but then I discovered writing, and
found I adored that, too. For reading … if nothing else is available,
I’ve been known to read the back of the cereal box.”
A hockey fan, hiker, gamer, and single mom of a special needs son, she
embraces her inner geek and has been working in the tech field for a
publishing company for a couple decades.
Music is a driving passion, and she says, “I love music of nearly any
genre — jazz, country, rock, alt rock, metal, classical, bluegrass, rap,
hip hop … you name it, I listen to it. I can often be seen dancing
through the house in the early mornings. But I really, REALLY love live
music. My favorite thing with music is seeing bands in small, dive bars
[read: small, intimate venues]. If said bar [venue] has a good selection
of premium tequila, then that’s a plus!”
