American Author, Lynn Carmer, recently released the first book in her new Steamy Contemporary series: Charm School After Dark.
Here we take a look at Lesson 1, the first of what looks to be a funny, sexy, must read series, and we also got the chance to interview the lady herself, on her first foray into the Indie Author world.
Blurb
Pass the wine, please.
Caelen Calvo has three meddling sisters, an employment problem, a married ex-boyfriend, and a massive headache from all the drama. Her only hope of redemption comes in the form of Ms. Belle’s Charm School that she and her sisters have recently inherited.
The problem?
The real money comes, not from the daytime classes on manners and etiquette, but from naughty evening classes that each sister must now teach.
Caelen draws the short straw. The first topic on the charm school’s roster is oral pleasure. Caelen has four short days to research advanced techniques like The Corn on the Cob and The Twist and Twirl . . . plus prep the charm school for a party and – oh yeah – find a man willing to be her temporary guinea pig.
Dare Lagos has been in love with Caelen since middle school. The boxer-turned-firefighter has always fought for what he wants, professionally. The battle for Caelen’s heart will be no different.
Doesn’t matter that they used to bicker endlessly, back in the day.
Doesn’t matter that he has a cheating ex-wife, who gave him serious trust issues.
And it shouldn’t matter that he’s been suspended from his job as a Hotshot, because he may have over-reacted when his ex-wife’s Boy Toy was assigned to his station.
Nope.
None of that matters, just the taste of her smart mouth, the feel of her smooth skin, and her sultry scent surrounding him.
He wants Caelen Calvo, and he’s going to make sure that the only name on her short-list is his.
Note: Intended for readers 18+. The story contains hilarious (and sometimes explicit) sex scenes, but they are always in good fun! No characters were harmed in the making of this novel.
Excerpt for Charm
School After Dark: Lesson
1:
“I want to make a deal.”
Holy
shit. Dare groaned, slow and long and deep, but thank God,
it was only in his mind. She’d done it again. Knocked him on his ass. I want to make a deal. Those were the
exact words Caelen had said to him fifteen years ago, when the two of them had
been shoved inside that closet, right before their first kiss. And damn, it’d
made his blood boil then, and it was worse now.
‘Cuz he remembered the taste of her lips, knew the
sound of her sighs when his tongue had entered her mouth. He’d never forgotten.
Never. Whether she knew it or not,
they were going to make this happen. He would make sure of it.
But the only way to ensure success? Make her believe
he had no emotional stake in what was about to happen. If he showed an ounce of
the intensity of his feelings, she’d be out the door. So he, somehow, hadn’t
let that groan pass his lips. Instead, he leaned back, his hands sinking in the
sand. Let her come to him. “Do tell. I need specifics.”

Just for Tonight (Victoria Bay Series Book 1)
The novella that started the Victoria Bay Series!
Ava Sinclair is finally getting everything she wants. She has a loving fiancé, a loyal and mischievous Harlequin Great Dane, and a fledgling business that is ready to take off. Or so she thought. An emergency trip to the veterinarian’s office has her racing home and finding her fiancé, Richard, doing the horizontal lambada with a bleach-blond bimbo. Her carefully constructed life is falling apart around her.
The last thing she wants is to travel to Cabo San Lucas, Mexico, to party with her insistent step-sister, Tess. But at this point, she will do anything to avoid Richard and the bitter disappointment of a cancelled wedding. Little does she know she will meet a tall, dark and desirable stranger that promises her one night of fiery, all-consuming passion.
Derek Connelly is trying to cope with the death of his wife. It has been ten years, to the day, since she has passed. After a long stroll on the beach he discovers a long-haired beauty, perched on a hotel balcony, looking as lost and sad as he feels. In an instant, he knows he must find his Rapunzel and convince her they deserve more than just one, mind-blowing, night.
He wants forever.
Just Don't Go (Victoria Bay Series Book 2)
His sinfully hard abs and clear blue eyes …
Tess Sinclair knows she can be difficult. She has never been described as a ‘people person.’ But there is a simple explanation for that. She has plans. World domination is only number four on her jam packed, to-do list. Because of that, she has one hard and fast rule: No relationships. There’s just not enough time in the day. Her only distractions are her unpredictable family members and seriously awesome 80’s music. Control is everything, so imagine her horror when she does a face plant, on stage, right in front of the most breathtaking – pinch yourself ‘cuz you must be dreaming! – man she’s ever seen. Ever. How can one wicked smile make her want to break her golden rule and throw caution to the wind?
Her enigmatic brown eyes, and plump, ruby-red lips …
Kade Alohi always gets what he wants. And right now, he wants Tess Sinclair. Intensely. Passionately. Exclusively. She has the face of an angel and a boulder-sized chip on her shoulder. No problem. He didn’t become the top ranked surfer, in the world, by sitting back and letting life happen. He’s not afraid to fight for her, even if he has to battle Tess’s burly and seriously stubborn neighbor or her overprotective and opinionated family. Hell, he’ll even battle Tess, herself, if it gets him what he wants. In the end, he’ll win her over by breaking all of her self-imposed rules, one impassioned night at a time.
Note: Intended for readers 18+. The story includes hilarious – hopefully! – and sometimes explicit sex scenes. But they are always in good fun.

About the Author
I am an American writer that loves pop culture. My
secret obsession is reality television. Ridiculous quotes and images from these
shows have taken up way too much space in my brain. I also have a small problem
with hyper-focusing on kitschy 80’s and 90’s music and movies…
So in order to make room in my overcrowded brain, I gather all of the useless
information and jam pack it into my books. Plus, I add lots and lots of steamy,
sex scenes just to make it more interesting.
I have always enjoyed mixing humor with drama and
hopefully my book Charm School After
Dark: Lesson 1 accomplishes that! I love the story, my heroine Caelen, her
3 sisters, and I am especially in love with my wickedly-wicked hero, Dare! A sarcastic
fighter-turned-firefighter. How could I go wrong? I hope you enjoy the story as
much as I do!

Author Name: Lynn Carmer
Genre: Contemporary Romance
Series if applicable: Charm School Series, Victoria Bay Series
What inspired you to write your first book?
I have read romance novels since I was about 12 years old. I
know! I started with teenage serial romances. I would daydream different
storylines in my mind, for years, but never thought I could really do it. Until,
right before a friend of mine was getting married – I was the Maid of Honor! –
I heard about an RT Conference in Pittsburgh ,
PA , that was happening right
before her wedding. (Please keep in mind I lived in California at the time.) Some inner voice
propelled me forward, and I just went for it. I booked the ticket and haven’t
looked back since. (And yes, my wonderful friend forgave me because I managed
to return before the Rehearsal Dinner and the actual wedding!) –LOL!
Is anything in your books based on true life?
That’s an interesting question. I definitely borrow quirky
personality traits from friends and family. (Unbeknownst to them, of course.)
But I could never base my hero or heroine on people I know because I’m writing
crazy sex scenes about them! AAGH! And that would just freak me out if their
faces popped in as I have my characters hanging from the chandelier
–metaphorically speaking – LOL!
Have any books/authors influenced you personally?
So, so many … I am an avid reader, and have been for years.
I started with the classics, which is so important and then moved onto some
seriously kick-ass romance authors. My favorites are: Christine Feehan, Kresley
Cole, Nalini Singh, Susanne Brockman, Lori Foster … the list goes on and on. I
am obsessed with these ladies, and I admire their success and I absolutely love
their books.
What author/s would you fangirl over?
Which authors would I and HAVE I fangirled over? Too many.
It is so embarrassing. I almost lost it once with JR Ward. I was at a conference
and I was asking her about her writing process —I was so flustered. (A total
mess!) But she was gracious and hilarious. (I love anyone who appreciates a
carefully dropped “F” Bomb as much as me :) I also spoke to Charlaine Harris
who sat next to us at an RWA conference. A group of guys were near us and I
kept saying: Do you know who this is? Charlaine Harris! True Blood! Nothing …?
(They had no idea what I was talking about.) She was another amazingly giving
and gracious woman. One thing I have to say: most romance authors are so
supportive. It truly is a wonderful community.
Any new authors interested you lately?
Yes! I have my old school faves, but I always try and look
for new Indie writers. (At least “new” to me.) I love Ilyana Knight. I also like
JM Madden.
What are you currently reading?
I just finished “Beautiful Bastard” by Christina Lauren.
They are a writing duo that started out on fan fiction sites, so I had to
support them. I love the success story!
Outside family, who do you feel has supported you on your
journey as a writer?
I have an amazing group of writer friends that I could
literally call at 2:00 am to ask about a plot problem. They are the absolute
best! Family and friends are wonderful, but only fellow writers understand the
little voices whispering in your head. I think it is absolutely crucial to find
support. And if you can’t find fellow writers, look for avid readers. They are
absolutely great, too!
Given the chance would you go back and change anything in
one of your books?
Absolutely. I am always picking, refining, editing and
re-editing. My publisher has had to threaten me with death or worse, to get me
to turn in my books. However, I have just gotten back the rights to four of my
previously released books, so I am finally getting the chance to make some of
those changes! Yay! It’s been awesome! Overall, I’m not really an
anal-retentive type of person, but I can get a little obsessive about my babies
… oops, I mean books J
What is the most challenging aspect of writing for you?
Oh God …where do I begin? I am a social, out-going kind of
girl and writing is a solitary, bone-crushingly and mind numbingly lonely
process. (Did I mention I can also be a little dramatic?) So usually the
hardest part, for me, is staring at that first blank document page. Even when I
have a story bursting at the seams, I usually end up writing down ideas first
because that blank page is intimidating! Seriously!
Do you do a lot of research for your books, or is it all
from your heart and mind?
Well, my latest book is about a girl who inherits a charm
school – “Charm School After Dark: Lesson 1” – and through a lot of completely
believable circumstances (wink, wink) she has to give a lot of blow jobs. Could
totally happen to anybody, right? And boy, did I research. I had a blast
renaming all the techniques to things like: The Long Lick Goodnight or The Ball
Juggler … My husband was a happy man, let me tell you, when I was trying to
work out the logistics of each technique. Even though I definitely thought I
had a grasp of the basics, there was a whole world that was opened up to me
after researching this book.
Do you have a favourite time/place to write?
I usually end up writing in the morning because of my
schedule. Which is weird because I’m not a morning person. Favorite place?
Dining room table. I’m sitting there now!
Do you have any bad writing habits?
I’m sure I have a ton. When I first started writing, I would
obsess and analyze my process, comparing myself to other writers. But as I’ve
gotten more comfortable with myself and my writing, I realize “… all roads lead
to Rome .” So,
are there bad habits or are there just different approaches to getting the job
down? (Semantics, right?) But I try to improve with every book. With the last,
I really focused on dialogue.
What are you currently working on and could you share a
snippet?
I just got the rights back to “Fervor” which is a Sci-Fi
fantasy about the Planet of Fire and Ice, and I am re-editing it now. Yippee!!
This is the first moment Caprice, the heroine, sees Arun, the hero. He has been
kidnapped by the King and has been chained and put on display to be sold at a
slave auction.
There he stood.
It was as if time
slowed, slugging by at half speed. Vaguely, she acknowledged Addy, the Vendri …
then the guards, looking like broken toys scattered across the floor—only to be
replaced by new guards rushing in to take their place. But nothing, nothing
could keep her gaze from the slave, no – not a slave – a towering Giant of a
man who looked to be lit from within.
Fascinated, a full
courtyard between them, she watched him bat the guards back like pesky
ice-bugs. Taking one step closer, then another, she felt compelled to get near
him. His sweat-covered skin shone bronze in the light, and a soft humming
increased in her ears as she watched.
Fist clenched, the
Giant slammed the broken chains hanging from his wrists into the guards’ face.
He stood, growling, as if to taunt them. In profile, my gods—he was
magnificent. The tallest and thickest man she’d ever seen.
Dark pants made of
thick black material hung low on his hips. Tight, black bands crisscrossed his
bare chest and smaller bands wrapped tight around his bulging biceps. Her
breath caught in her throat, her heart banging strong enough to pop out of her
breast. His chest and stomach were …indescribable. Is this what a man was meant
to look like under his clothes? She had always burned to know the answer.
When you’re not writing, what do you like to do?
Read, read, READ! Did I mention I enjoy reading? LOL! I love
spending time with my girls, who are home from school for vacation which makes
life a little hectic, but a good hectic. (Unless, I’m writing and they start
with the: Mom ... mom! Grrr!) I also love my dogs. I have a Great Dane mix (and
surprise, surprise- I have a Great Dane in my Victoria Bay Series) and I have a
Bassett Hound puppy (so surprise, surprise – again! – I have a Basset Hound in
my Charm School book!) Write what you know. J
